How to create a weathered finish using fresco

I don’t know about you but I love the look of a weathered piece of furniture! It gives the piece so much character and a story. You never know with a weathered piece... was it around 200 years ago? Has it been repainted over and over again? Is it a newer piece made to look old? You just never can tell! (Who doesn’t love a little mystery?) Today we’re going to create a weathered look using Fusion Mineral Paint Fresco (and no, this post is NOT sponsored, we just really love Fresco!)

Fresco is actually a texturing agent that allows you to create multiple finishes. Its really easy to use and it kinda looks like pancake mix (sorry to anyone who is hungry and is now thinking about pancakes, my bad, you can make some as soon as your done reading)

Materials: FMP-Limestone; Fresco; Plastic Bowl; Whisk; Workshop Brush
To achieve our weathered look we are going to pour our paint (I’m using Fusion Mineral Paint’s Limestone) into a bowl, I just use plastic bowls from the dollar store, no need to be fancy here.

Next we are going to add our Fresco, I am not going for a very textured look, just slightly aged. I am going to use a scoop to measure out the Fresco. For a weathered look I use a two to one ratio (two scoops of paint per one scoop of Fresco)

*Pro Tip- The more Fresco you add the more texture your piece will have

Mix your Fresco and paint with a whisk (yes, a whisk)  but remember we want a weathered look so a somewhat lumpy mixture is ok!

*Pro tip- I wouldn't use my beautiful Staalmeester brush with Fresco, instead I use a 2 inch workshop brush.

Once the Fresco is mixed we are going to apply the mixture all over our piece. Remember this is going to be our first coat and we are going to paint over the Fresco in our second coat.
After the Fresco is applied wait about ten minutes and go back with your brush and pat down the clumps. After the clumps are patted down let the piece dry completely.

Now it's time for your second coat! Pick out your favorite color of Fusion Mineral Paint and apply your second coat over  the Fresco! Once the paint has dried sand down your piece. Fresco dries hard, so sand over the lumps. Remember the more you distress, the more weathered the piece looks.
Once your piece is finished, put it on display! (And just for fun tell your friends that the piece has been passed down for generations and     generations!)

Here's a sneak peak of our piece! Stay tuned for the big reveal!

That was a great idea! It would really be a big help to decrease expenses. It can be a "do-it-yourself' strategy. Instead of having someone who can paint the things in your house like the furniture and other stuffs, I can consider this as a tip to do it alone. I would really love to make it. I love the color too, it looks neat. I love the drawer, it looks like a vintage design. Thank you so much for sharing a useful tip.

It's nice that they have clear instructions for these. I remember having to attend and pay for workshops just for these. The internet has already become an open easy access library with free membership. Or maybe it came with a little price. But still, you can't deny that we are really learning a lot of things. The only downside I guess is that it becomes an easy vehicle for gullible people to access wrong information. Make sure you know your sources and when in doubt, you can always ask the elders.

"Gabriel has an eye for color, design and finding vintage furniture and creating them into one of a kind must have pieces. I can't wait for the store to open to shop. Marco, his knowledge of stones is amazing, each of his pieces is original and special. I was lucky to get a numerology bracelet and class from him. You can't go wrong visiting these 2 talents."
                                                                                   -Jennifer C

"Before I paid attention to what goes on in your store, my parents and I got rid of old furniture that belonged to relatives that had passed on. D@mn, am I kicking myself for doing that. You sure do take 'ehh' pieces of furniture and turn them into beauties. And the jewelry/stones...can't say enough good things about you guys and Alexa!"
